I saw my therapist today

As you might imagine – given the nature of this blog – I am a big believer in therapy.  I love the whole bit.  The couch.  The kleenex.  The tea and the tears.    I have accessed some deep healing from traditional talk therapy with very gifted practitioners.  I became fascinated by the depth and breadth ofContinue reading “I saw my therapist today”

The work is in The Wobble

I was on a roll (for me) with about a twice a week pace but I haven’t posted in a while.   I have been a little frozen lately.  Crazy to be frozen in 105 degree East Coast heat but I have let my life get out of balance.  Though one of my favorite Yoga instructors says when searchingContinue reading “The work is in The Wobble”

Rejected!

Apparently, the world is not my oyster. I got up at 4:45 this morning for sunrise Ashtanga – Mysore series.  I was turned away – from Yoga!  Christ have mercy, it’s just not right.  Here’s how it went down at the reception desk at the studio: That’s not me or the bouncer, but you get the drift. Me:  (All excited and proudContinue reading “Rejected!”

Love and Laundry

I was recently at a friend’s house nosing around the book shelves as I often do.  (You might want to be careful, if you ever invite me over.)  I love to read and I think book inventories are fascinating extensions of their owners.  This quickly caught my eye: I read this in college, near theContinue reading “Love and Laundry”

To wax or not to wax…

Because marrymeyoga is a yoga and fitness blog, here is the dose of Yoga. I am reading this book: It was required text during my teacher training.  15 months later I am still very intrigued.  It is an invaluable source of information regarding the theory and practice of toga.  It is a tender telling ofContinue reading “To wax or not to wax…”

Asana, not Ambien

There are Yoga postures that will promote healthy sleep.  This is not a ground-breaking new technique for catching Z’s drug free.  But since natural rest is best and Yoga is as close as your breath why not learn a little more about this free and easy way of accessing a lovely rest that makes you nicer?I wantContinue reading “Asana, not Ambien”

Facing the giant

A Giant obstacle to any passion no matter how much you love it is Boredom.  Boredom is a wretched temptation to abandon a pursuit no matter how noble or positive the activity.  It’s a necessary stepping stone to higher ground.  A new level of thinking.  It is the treacherous bridge between what is and what couldContinue reading “Facing the giant”

The Yoga Room, a confessional

Because I am so in love with Yoga, I feel compelled to use this space to sing its praises and show you all the cool and intriguing stuff about it.  I mean no irreverance to my life’s partner or to my beloved students but some parts of practicing and teaching Yoga are bizarre and dang funny.  Don’t evenContinue reading “The Yoga Room, a confessional”

The Cheryl Lynn and Mary J Blige of Yoga

I was a slinking, crooning R & B artist in another life.  I can feel it radiating outward from BEHIND MY BELLY BUTTON when I hear the likes of these goddesses commanding us to be real: What you find-ah What you feel now What you know-a To be real No one said it better, Chery Lynn.  BeingContinue reading “The Cheryl Lynn and Mary J Blige of Yoga”

Bikram Yoga: Stinky good

Today I almost threw up in a Bikram yoga class.  I added Bikram (90 minutes, 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises, 105 degrees, 40% humidity) to my yogic bag of tricks about 2 years ago.  I won’t wax poetic about my ‘journey’ to the hot room and the major transformations therein.  Disclaimer:  I love Bikram.  I alsoContinue reading “Bikram Yoga: Stinky good”
