Kathleen: Mom, I was watching this show about celebrity sweet sixteen birthday bashes and it was pretty cool.
Me: Really – worried inside there was lap dancing involved. I braced myself for the implication that her life pales in comparison.
Kathleen: There was this one section on P-Diddy’s son. He got like a $300,000.00 car and cash. Doesn’t he have like 5 million sons? That must get pretty expensive.
Me: Laugh
Relief. I didn’t have to impart my wisdom about the fleeting value of material things and project about Diddy’s Daddy Skills.
Me: Wow, Diddy, Jr. must have deserved it. After all it takes such brilliance and hard work to turn 16.

This made me wonder about P Diddy and Yoga. It must be hard for celebrities and their children to stay focused on inner work and a calm mind with all the distractions that come with red carpet life. This is what I found.
Diddy lives two floors up from him:

This is a HUGE score for Diddy-o. DEEPAK CHORPRA. Dang. I found out they meditate together. Whereas Diddy does not fall into the known celebrity yogi category like Woody Harrelson, Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jen Aniston and others – he loves him some hearty Om! And he partakes often. With Deepak as often as possible. I would too.
Robert Piper says of Deepak Chopra:
He practices meditation with P Diddy, does yoga with Tara Stiles, and hangs out with Lady Gaga. Here are ten life changing tips inspired from quotes by the coolest man on the planet, Deepak Chopra!
(Diddy may not be a rocket scientist but he’s not stupid.)
1. Let Go
“Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.”
2. Nothing Is Impossible
“You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible.”
3. Embrace the Unknown.
“Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.”
4. Go with the Flow
“Don’t try to steer the river.”
5. Embrace Stillness
“In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.”
6. Live a Conscious Life
“The way you think, the way you behave, the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years.”
7. Find Your Purpose
“There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle.”
8. Let Go of Your Ego
“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. ”
9. Embrace Your Current Relationships
“Whatever relationships you have attracted in your life at this moment, are precisely the ones you need in your life at this moment. There is a hidden meaning behind all events, and this hidden meaning is serving your own evolution.”
10. Be Open To All Possibilities
“Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.”

Several times a year The Chopra Center offers a free – yes, I said FREE – 21-day Meditation Challenge. I will post when I learn about the next round but visit the Center’s website to stay on top of it.
So, whereas I don’t think it’s totally appropriate for a 16-year-old to get a car that costs as much as a house – he did donate the $10,000 check to help the Haitians. Love it. I love Deepak and Diddy too.
Who’s your Diddy?
I’m in on the next 21-day challenge! That’s the other thing about those 5:30 am mornings I didn’t tell you. I’ve been sitting in stillness, breathing, waiting…
