Read this book and GIVEAWAY

Whether you are in to Yoga or not, you will get a kick out of Claire Dederer’s best-seller,  Poser:  My Life in 23 Yoga Poses.

My bestie, Beth gave it to me for my birthday.  A runner, writer and yogi, Beth had not yet read it she but knows me and anything with Yoga in the title is a pretty good bet.  Claire is a daggone good writer with a warmth and flow woven into her work.  I want her to be my bestie too.  I am issuing an open invitation to Ms. Dederer for coffee or wine or yoga at my house.  It expires at eternity.

She is self-deprecating and loving and tender and had me laughing and crying out loud to the raised eyebrow of my family during a recent long car ride.  I was slightly depressed when I finished this book for a number of reasons.  She writes how I want to.  She is dedicated to her yoga as I am and she has met and practiced with and had coffee with Richard Freeman of Ashtanga fame.  She calls him a genius.  I call Claire Dederer a genius and a delight.  Here’s why:

A woman in her late twenties entered and rolled out her mat in front of us.  Her thick blond hair was cut in an expensive bob.  Her eyebrows were fancily mowed.  Her outfit was black and tight.  she looked as though she had been a step-aerobics teacher until about five minutes ago.  She looked like her name was Jennifer.

I am Atosa,” she said.  Like hell you are sister.

Isn’t she something?

Claire: Yoga/Writer/Goddess

So, the point?  Have some fun.  Read this tender and rich book and be inspired to be who you are no matter what.  Take up yoga.  Continue your practice.

Oh, and guess what?!  I am hosting a guest writer next post.  A lovely writer named Kate has some wonderful and interesting things to share and would like to use this space.  I am happy to oblige.  Stay tuned.  So much to say, so  much to do.  Song lyrics, much?

  1. I read it, loved it, and now own it. I could TOTALLY relate to her struggle to reclaim her life after a rough delivery and how yoga echoed themes in her life. So SO SO good! Skip me for the giveaway because I want to give up my spot so someone else can read it and fall in love!

  2. I haven’t read it, but it sounds great. I just finished “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed, which I liked a lot, so I picked up “Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar,” which I’m enjoying much more than I thought I would. Ms. Strayed’s writing is fantastic. If I don’t win “Poser,” I will for sure buy it myself. Thanks for the tip!
